Ca två kilometer söder om startkoordinaterna för denna Virtuella cache ligger Pildammsparken. Vid 1500-talets slut anlades där en damm som skulle fungera som Malmös vattenreservoar. Pilträden som planterades för att förstärka reservoarens skyddsvallar gav också Pildammsparken sitt namn. Dammarna fungerade som reservoar till långt in på 1800-talet.
Vattnet leddes hela vägen från Pildammarna i två tjocka trärörsledningar till en brunn på det då nyanlagda Stortorget. Malmö fick därmed den äldsta, av samhället organiserade, vattenförsörjningen i Sverige.
Från stadsbrunnen gick vidare ledningar till stadens större gårdar, som fick friskt vatten till sina brunnar - en fantastisk lyx på den tiden.
Träledningarna ersattes i slutet på 1800-talet av metallrör från det nya vattentornet i Pildammarna, då det visat sig att trärören varit en av smittokällorna i den stora koleraepidemin.
Stadsbrunnen som en gång stod på torget var rikt dekorerad - en s.k. vannkunst. Vid startkoordinaterna, några meter ifrån den gamla brunnen på Stortorget, står idag en Torgbrunnsskulptur skapad av Stig Blomberg som är uppförd 1964. Den står där för att påminna om den gamla vattenreservoaren.
Den gamla brunnen ligger fortfarande bevarad under marken och den ursprungliga placeringen är markerad med vita marmorstenar i marken på torget.

About two kilometers south of the start coordinates for this Virtual cache is the park called Pildammsparken. At the end of the 16th century, a dam was constructed which would serve as Malmö's water reservoir. The willow trees that were planted to strengthen the reservoir's levees also gave Pildammsparken its name (The willow dam park). The ponds served as reservoirs until well into the 19th century.
The water was led all the way from the dams in two thick wooden pipes to a well on the then newly constructed square called Stortorget. Malmö was thus given the oldest, by society organized, water supply in Sweden.
From the city well, pipes went to the city's larger farms, which received fresh water for their own wells - a fantastic luxury at that time.
The wooden pipes were replaced in the late 1800s by metal pipes from the new water tower in Pildammsparken, when it was found that the wooden pipes were one of the sources of infection in the large cholera epidemic.
The city fountain that once stood on the square was richly decorated. At the start coordinates, a few meters from the old well on Stortorget, stands today a sculpture created by Stig Blomberg. It was erected in 1964 to remind us of the old water reservoir.
The old well is still preserved beneath the ground and the original location is marked with white marble stones in the ground in the square.
