Kužno znamenje

V Mariboru se je v 17. stoletju prvic pojavi kuga, zaradi katere je umrla tretjina prebivalstva. V zahvalo za prenehanje kuge so mariborski prebivalci leta 1681 postavili kužno znamenje - steber s podobo Marije. Tega so v 18. stoletju nadomestili z današnjim, ki je delo Jožefa Štrauba. Okoli Matere božje je razvršcenih šest svetnikov, priprošnikov zoper kugo. Kužno znamenje se nahaja na Glavnem trgu, mimo katerega vodi Koroška cesta.

Plague column

The plague broke out in Maribor for the first time in the 17th century, causing the death of a third of the inhabitants. In appreciation for the cessation of the plague the inhabitants of Maribor in the year 1681 erected the Plague Column – a pillar bearing an image of Virgin Mary. In the 18th century this was replaced by today's monument, which is the work of Jožef Štraub. Arranged around the statue of Mary, Mother of God are six saints, all intercessors against the plague. The Plague Column is located at the main square Glavni trg, and past which leads the road Koroška cesta

Pestsäule

In Maribor trat im 17. Jahrhundert erstmals die Pest auf, an der ein Drittel der Einwohner starb. Zum Dank an das Ende der Seuche stellten die Einwohner von Maribor im Jahre 1681 die Pestsäule auf – eine Säule mit Marienabbild. Diese wurde im 18. Jahrhundert gegen die heutige ausgetauscht, die ein Werk des Künstlers Jožef Štraub ist. Um die Mutter Gottes haben sechs Heilige Platz genommen, Fürbitter gegen die Pest. Die Pestsäule steht auf dem Platz Glavni trg, an dem die Strasse Koroška cesta vorbei führt.
