La Cappella di Sant’Orsola sorge nel centro di Vigo di Cadore e rappresenta un interessante e prezioso monumento, patrimonio artistico e architettonico.
Edificata per volere di Ainardo, un ricco abitante di Vigo, come cappella funeraria, la struttura presenta origini antiche (presente già nel 1345), allorquando era caratterizzata da una forma lineare e rettangolare, secondo un modello trecentesco. Solo nel XVII secolo, grazie a qualche intervento di ampliamento, la cappella acquisisce la forma attuale con l’aggiunta di una cappellina e una sagrestia a Nord; lavori che purtroppo hanno però intaccato le decorazioni pittoriche sia all’interno che all’esterno dell’edificio.
La Cappella di Sant’Orsola rappresenta un sito di rilevanza culturale e artistica unica in questo territorio: all’interno della struttura si sviluppa infatti un unico immenso affresco che ricopre tutte le pareti raffigurante la leggenda di Sant’Orsola, figlia del Re d’Inghilterra e convertita al Cristianesimo, uccisa per aver rifiutato di sposare un principe pagano.
In questo piccolo tempio sacro l’arte medievale fa da padrona e si rivela in tutta la sua bellezza tra gli affreschi eseguiti con attenzione e bravura da un’artista ignoto, che ha voluto rendere omaggio alla leggendaria storia di Sant’Orsola. È possibile suddividere il continuo affresco in 4 registri: la decorazione che caratterizza la parte bassa e alta delle pareti, la fascia mediana sulla quale sono narrati i vari episodi della leggenda, i lunettoni della facciata e controfacciata e, infine, la volta. Ogni dipinto risulta essere eseguito con un’ottima tecnica a “buon fresco”, che ha permesso tra l’altro la conservazione dei colori fino a oggi, in maniera dettagliata e precisa e con una forte espressività.
Altro tesoro d’arte custodito dentro la Cappella di Sant’Orsola è l’altare ligneo di Michael Parth, un flügelaltäre tardogotico tedesco, dipinto e dorato, tra i pochi conservati in territorio Cadorino.

The Chapel of Sant’Orsola rises in the center of Vigo di Cadore and represents an interesting and precious monument, artistic and architectural heritage.
Built at the behest of Ainardo, a wealthy inhabitant of Vigo, as a funerary chapel, the structure has ancient origins (already present in 1345), when it was characterized by a linear and rectangular shape, according to a fourteenth-century model. Only in the seventeenth century, thanks to some expansion works, the chapel acquire its present form with the addition of a chapel and a sacristy to the north; works that unfortunately have affected the pictorial decorations both inside and outside the building.
The Chapel of Sant'Orsola is a site of unique cultural and artistic significance in this area: inside the structure develops a unique immense fresco that covers all the walls depicting the legend of St. Ursula, daughter of the King of England and converted to Christianity, killed for refusing to marry a pagan prince.
In this small sacred temple medieval art is the master and reveals itself in all its beauty among the frescoes executed with care and skill by an unknown artist, who wanted to pay tribute to the legendary story of St'Ursula. It is possible to subdivide the continuous fresco into 4 registers: the decoration that characterizes the lower and upper part of the walls, the median strip on which the various episodes of the legend are narrated, the façades and façade fronts and, finally, the vault. Each painting appears to be executed with an excellent "good fresh" technique, which has allowed the preservation of colors to date, in a detailed and precise manner and with a strong expressiveness.
Another treasure of art preserved inside the Chapel of Sant’Orsola is the wooden altar of Michael Parth, a German gothic flüelgelaltäre, painted and gilded, among the few preserved in the Cadore region.

Die Kapelle der Heiligen Ursula befindet im Zentrum von Vigo di Cadore und stellt ein interessantes und wertvolles Denkmal, künstlerisches und architektonisches Erbe dar.
Die auf Geheiß von Ainardo, einem reichen Einwohner von Vigo, als Begräbniskapelle errichtete Struktur hat antike Ursprünge (bereits 1345 vorhanden), und zeichnete sich durch eine lineare und rechteckige Form nach einem Modell aus dem vierzehnten Jahrhundert aus. Erst im 17. Jahrhundert erhielt die Kapelle dank einiger Vergrößerungen ihre heutige Form mit dem Anbau einer kleinen Kapelle und einer Sakristei im Norden; Arbeiten, die leider die Bilddekorationen sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb des Gebäudes beeinträchtigten.
Die St.-Ursula-Kapelle stellt einen Ort von kultureller und künstlerischer Bedeutung dar, der in dieser Gegend einzigartig ist: Im Inneren der Struktur befindet sich ein einziges riesiges Fresko, das alle Wände bedeckt und die Legende der Heiligen Ursula darstellt.
In diesem kleinen heiligen Tempel zeigt sich die mittelalterliche Kunst der Meister und offenbart sich in ihrer ganzen Schönheit in den Fresken, die mit Sorgfalt und Geschick von einem unbekannten Künstler gemalt wurden. Es ist möglich, das durchgehende Fresko in 4 Register zu unterteilen: die Dekoration, die den unteren und oberen Teil der Wände charakterisiert, das mittlere Band, auf dem die verschiedenen Episoden der Legende erzählt werden, die Lünetten der Fassade und der Gegenfassade und schließlich das Gewölbe. Jedes Gemälde ist mit einer ausgezeichneten "good cool"-Technik ausgeführt, die es unter anderem ermöglicht hat, die Farben bis heute detailgetreu, präzise und ausdrucksstark zu konservieren.
Ein weiterer Kunstschatz, der in der Kapelle St. Ursula aufbewahrt wird, ist der hölzerne Altar von Michael Parth, ein spätgotischer deutscher Flügelaltar, bemalt und vergoldet, der zu den wenigen im Cadorino-Gebiet erhaltenen gehört.
