Geocache Description:

A simple calculation at these coordinates to lead you to a sneaky urban cache at another set of coordinates a short walk away.

I battled with the idea of War Memorial caches for a while, it seems irreverent somehow, but these parts of our urban landscape are so familiar now that they are mostly ignored and if caching can make us stop and think about them more then that's always a good thing. Also many of the names here are not the old men we are used to seeing on November 11th these days, but young, lively blokes who probably would have thoroughly enjoyed geocaching had it existed then, and had they ever returned.

Bridgend War Memorial was designed by Mr Walter Cook of Bridgend, and construction in Portland Stone was undertaken by local builder Philip Gaylard and HH Martin & Co of Cheltenham. It was paid for by members of the public and was unveiled on the 11th November 1921. It is 24ft high with Britannia at the top standing at 7ft tall, with the emblems of Sacrifice and Victory above her. It is a tribute to local men killed in World War I (the Great War) to which the names of those lost in World War II and more recent conflicts have been subsequently added.

At the published co-ordinates gather the surname information from main plaques on the 4 sides of the obelisk, which will give you the final hide. Cache is a camouflaged 100ml container.
