La Traversata dei Monti è una lunga escursione che si sviluppa sulle pendici del versante meridionale della Val Bregaglia italiana.
Tipicamente si parte da Est, in zona Laghetti per arrivare fino ad Uschione e da lì scendere a Chiavenna. Dal 2016, lungo questi sentieri si corre il Val Bregaglia Trail che iniziando a Chiavenna la percorre in senso inverso (per poi proseguire fino a Bondo e ritornare alla partenza percorrendo il versante settentrionale). Questa è la direzione che seguiremo anche noi.
La lunghezza del percorso dove sono nascoste le cache è di circa 12km per una durata approssimativa di 7 ore. Si parte dai 333m di Chiavenna e con un primo "strappo" si arriva agli 832m di Uschione. Da lì è un lungo traverso di circa 8km a salire fino ai 1334m di Era e poi la restante parte è pressoché pianeggiante.
Nulla impedisce comunque di percorrere la serie in senso inverso o di spezzarla a metà: infatti a Monte Tabarè, Pradella, Saranga, Motta, alpe Tabiadascio e a Cantone si possono imboccare dei sentieri che portano in fondovalle dove è possibile fare ritorno a Chiavenna camminando lungo la ciclabile o prendendo l'autobus.
La parte più impegnativa è quella tra Pradella e La Sponda (poco prima di Cantone). Prima di partire salvate le foto spoiler perchè spesso il segnale telefonico è assente.

I prati di Cantone
Questa serie di cache mi è stata ispirata da una letterbox di varaless. Quando la trovai vidi che era dotata di una... strumentazione di cui anche io ero in possesso. Però la mia idea era di utilizzarla in maniera diversa. Da qui è nata la serie di 26 letterbox che gioca con gli elementi della tavola periodica: un elemento per ogni lettera dell'alfabeto e come fattori per il calcolo del finale il numero atomico, il peso atomico, il punto di fusione.
Già, ma non esistono elementi che iniziano per "J" e per "Q"! In quel caso sono stati associati il "numero" della lettera con il numero atomico. Licenza poetica :)

Baite a Tabiadascio
L'oro è l'elemento chimico [...] con simbolo Au (dal latino aurum). È un metallo di transizione tenero, pesante, duttile, malleabile di colore giallo, dovuto all'assorbimento delle lunghezze d'onda del blu dalla luce incidente.

The Traversata dei Monti is a beautiful hike that develops along the southern slope of the Italian Val Bregaglia.
Typically it starts from the East, in the Laghetti area to get to Uschione and from there descend to Chiavenna. Since 2016, along these paths it runs the Val Bregaglia Trail which, starting in Chiavenna, runs in the opposite direction (and then continues to Bondo and returns to the starting point along the northern slope). This is the direction we will also follow.
The length of the path where the caches are hidden is about 12km, approximately 7 hours of walk. It starts from the 333m of Chiavenna and get to the 832m of Uschione. From there it is a long uphill of about 8km till Era (1334m) and then the remaining part is almost flat.
In any case, nothing prevents you from going through the series in the opposite direction or split it into two parts: in Monte Tabarè, Pradella, Saranga, Motta, alpe Tabiadascio and in Cantone you can take paths leading to the valley bottom where you can return to Chiavenna by walking along the bicycle way or by taking the bus.
The most challenging part is that between Pradella and La Sponda (just before Cantone). Before leaving, save the spoiler picturess because often there's no telephone signal.

This series was inspired by a varaless letterbox. When I found it, I saw that it had some... "tools" that I also had. But my idea was to use them differently. From here came the series of 26 letterboxes that play with the elements of the periodic table: an element for each letter of the alphabet and as factors for the calculation of the final coordinates the atomic number, the atomic weight, the melting point.
Yes, but there are no elements that start with "J" and "Q"! In that case the "number" of the letter was associated with the atomic number. Poetic license :)
