Geocache Description:

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably stated in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

Another addition to the Village Sign Series. VS#1571 Wisset.

The following is taken from Wikipedia.

Wissett is a village and civil parish in the Waveney district of Suffolk, England located at 52.35N 01.46E TM3679 about 2 km (about 1.5 miles) northwest of Halesworth. Historically, it was in the hundred of Blything. It has a population of about 200, measured at 268 in the 2011 Census.
Wisset manor was held by Ralph the staller, Baron of Gael in Brittany before the Norman Conquest. Ralph was created Earl of Suffolk and Norfolk in 1067, but his son lost the title and the manor passed to Count Alan of Brittany and Richmond in 1075. The Domesday Book shows that in 1086 Wissett had a church at Rumburgh with two carucates of free land, twelve monks, and a chapel in the village.

The eleventh-century flint parish church dedicated to Saint Andrew has a circular church tower with a floor dated to the 12th Century. This is the oldest recorded church tower floor in the United Kingdom. Built as a chapel to Rumburgh Priory, the surviving elements of the Norman church are two doors to the nave and the tower arch. The parish is now part of the Blyth Valley Team Ministry in the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The cache is a two stage multi due to the location of The nearby Church Micro. Parking is available in the village car par next to the Village sign. At time of placement the village sign has been removed for maintenance. At the published co-ordinates you will find a yellow feature. On this feature you will find a 5 digit number on a small panel on the front. Ignore all the other numbers on this feature.  Use this 5 digit number as ABCDE to calculate the co-ordinates for the cache location.

The cache is located on a nearby public footpath a short walk away at N52 (A-B) C. (E-C) E (D-B) E001 (E-D) (A+D). D (B-C) (A+B+D) Please take care crossing roads and Happy Caching!
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
