Kirklington & Edingley station opened on 3 April 1871 after the line from Southwell was extended to Mansfield by the Midland Railway Company. The contractors for the construction were Eckersley and Baylis. The cast iron bridges on the route were built by Handyside & Co of Derby.
The station closed to passengers on 12 August 1929. Freight services operated by the National Coal Board continued until 25 June 1964 when the line completely closed.
This route is now a footpath belonging to Nottinghamshire County Council and has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve.
