Northern Lights GeoTour on 12 kätkön sarja Saariselän ja Kiilopään maisemissa. Kätköt tekevät tutuksi revontulten olemusta ja niihin liittyviä uskomuksia. Kätköt ovat perheystävällisiä ja talvilöydettäviä.

Northern Lights GeoTour is a series or 12 caches in Saariselkä and Kiilopää areas in Finnish Lapland. The caches will take you into the world of the northern lights and present facts and myths about the aurora borealis phenomenon. All the caches are family friendly and accessible throughout a year.

Aurinko - Aurora

1600-luvulla Galileo Galilei ja Pierre Gassendi keksivät nimen Aurora Borealis, joka tarkoitti pohjoista aamuruskoa. Aurora oli roomalainen aamun jumalatar ja Borealis kreikkalainen pohjoistuulen jumala.

Aurinko synnyttää revontulia yhdessä maan magneettikentän kanssa. Inarilaisen valokuvaajan ja revontulten kuvaajan Martti Rikkosen mukaan “ revontulet ovat leimuavat terveiset maapallolle kaiken elämän ylläpitäjältä, auringolta”.

Northern Lights GeoTour

GeoTourin omaa geokolikkoa on myytävänä rajoitettu määrä leimattua GeoTour-passia vastaan. Sinun tulee käydä vähintään kuudella GeoTourin kätköllä sekä leimata passisi kätköstä löytyvillä reijittäjillä. The first uses of the term "aurora borealis" date to the 17th century in the writings of Galileo Galilei and Pierre Gassendi. It meant ‘northern dawn’: Aurora was the Roman goddess of dawn and "borealis" comes from Boreas, the Greek god of the North Wind.

The aurora is caused by the sun's interaction with Earth’s magnetic field. Martti Rikkonen, a northern lights photographer, describes the lights as “flaming greetings from the sun, the source of energy for all living organisms on Earth”.

Northern Lights GeoTour coins are available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must present the punched passport in order to buy a coin (maximum of one black and one purple coin per Username). Show 6 punch marks from different caches to purchase the black geocoin, and 12 punch marks to purchase the purple geocoin. More information at Suomen Latu profile page.
