Geocache Description:

This cache should only be attempted during daylight hours. Should you run into one of the many firefighters on duty at this working firehouse, fear not - they know about the geocache and are sympathetic to your quest. Posted pictures of yourself next to the cache are acceptable and encouraged. Please do not post the answers to the quiz, as this post would have to be deleted for obvious reasons. Parking is located at 404 School Street, between the fire station and City Park School. To access the cache, you will need to refer to the  2 provided pictures of the monument that is located next to the flag pole on the front lawn. After reading the monument, you will learn some of the history of the Dalton Fire Department and with this newly acquired knowledge, you will be able to discern the appropriate 4 digit combination to gain entry to the cache. It is not necessary to visit the monument, but should you choose to do so, please be aware that this is a working fire station. If you're facing the station from School Street, the best route to get to the monument is to follow the sidewalk to the right around the rear of the building.

#1)This will be the first digit.

a) Add the first 2 digits of the incident year to acquire a sum. b) Add the second 2 digits of the incident year to acquire a sum. c) Subtract the sum of the first addition problem from the sum of the second addition problem. (a-b=digit 1)

#2) This will be the second digit.

Reference the Firefighter’s Prayer on the reverse of the monument. How many times is “COURAGE” referenced?

#3) This will be the third digit.

Reference the date of dedication. a) Add together each individual number of the four digits of the YEAR this monument was dedicated b) Add together the two digits of the DAY of the dedication. Then, add to that sum the numerical value of the MONTH. c) Subtract the sum of step “b” from the sum of step “a”. (a-b=digit 3)

#4) This will be the fourth digit.

In what numerical month did this incident occur?

Permission for cache placement has been given by Chief Pangle of the Dalton City Fire Department.
