On this spot you will find a memorial. American music was changed forever following the original Winter Dance Party on February 2, 1959 at the Surf Ballroom in Iowa.
A plane on it's way to another performance crashed five miles north of Clear Lake, killing the young pilot Roger Peterson and rock-and-roll legends Buddy Holly, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Ritchie Valens.
Located just outside the main entrance, the memorial to the late rockers commemorates their music, their style, and their unforgettable contribution to the music world.
To claim this cache you need to walk to your left from the memorial and stand right in front of the paybooth. In the sidewalk below your feet are a large number of messages on the brick sidewalk. In the first two rows is a group of bricks with the same family name on them.
