Geocache Description:

Houston Holocaust Museum: A living testimonial to those who died. A place to honor those who survived, and a source of education for present and future generations.

Holocaust Museum Houston serves as a memorial to the millions of innocent victims of Nazi hatred and is dedicated to educating people about the dangers of intolerance and prejudice in society. The main exhibit, "Bearing Witness: A Community Remembers", features photographs, artifacts, and film reels documenting life before, during, and after the Holocaust. Two films, "Voices and Voices II", show daily in the 100-seat theater and feature the first-hand accounts of Houston-area survivors. The Museum also contains a book store and two galleries for changing art exhibits.

In his midnight millennium speech, Pope John Paul said the most defining elements of the 20th century were the rise and fall of two oppressive ideologies that victimized millions of people--Communism and Nazism. This museum is a tribute to the victims of Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Through changing exhibits, films and lectures, it seeks to inform future generations of the racism of the holocaust and the horrifying results of hatred.

In addition to exhibits, there's a library, theater and document archives. Varoius events are scheduled throughout the year and a multi-cultural walk/run ends on the museum steps in May. Every American should visit so you never forget that freedom can't be taken for granted.
