Le musée et site gallo-romains du Fâ vous propose un circuit de cinq caches qui vous permettront de découvrir cette ancienne ville portuaire gallo-romaine.
Au fil de votre parcours, en dehors de l'espace de visite, qui commence par le théâtre, d’une distance d’environ 1km, n’oubliez pas de relever les indices indispensables pour trouver les quatre premières caches.

VESTIBULUM :
Vous voici tout près de l’entrée du site. Plus précisément, vous êtes dans le grand sanctuaire de la ville antique. Il est occupé depuis l'époque protohistorique (gauloise). Au second siècle, le vaste programme de monumentalisation de la ville transforme cet espace. Un nouveau péribole sous la forme de galeries couvertes est construit pour délimiter une cour de plus d'un hectare, où est installé un imposant temple circulaire et aujourd’hui le musée.
Le temple est installé sur un podium de près de 3 m de hauteur et d'un diamètre de 120 pieds romains (1 pied romain = 29,975 cm), sur lequel est greffé, à l'est, l'avancée rectangulaire de l'escalier et du porche aux colonnes corinthiennes qui se prolongeait, sur tout le périmètre du podium, d'un péristyle d'une douzaine de mètres de hauteur sous plafond. Il entoure la cella (salle de la divinité), munie face à l'escalier d'une porte de 5 m de largeur et sans doute 8 m de haut. On restitue à cette cella 120 pieds romains de hauteur (égal au diamètre du podium), soit 35,48 m. Le fond de son espace intérieur est creusé d'une niche où l'on avait installé la (ou les) statue(s) divine(s). Au total, le temple était haut de 38,50 m.
Les négatifs de quatorze pilastres engagés sont visibles aujourd'hui, rythmant la façade et supportant le plafond en coupole de la cella dont il ne reste qu'une petite élévation conservée. Aujourd'hui, un moulin du XVIIe siècle est visible, installé au centre de la cella.
VESTIBULUM :
You are now close to the entrance of the site, precisely in the great sanctuary of this ancient city. It has been occupied since the protohistoric period (Gallic). In the second century, an extensive program of building work has transformed this space. A new "peribol" in the form of covered galleries was built to delineate a courtyard of more than one hectare, in which stands an imposing circular temple (it's now the museum).
The temple is built on a podium of nearly 3 m in height and 120 'Roman feet' in diameter (1 'Roman foot' = 29.975 cm). To the east, there is a rectangular stairway leading to the Corinthian columns which extended all along the perimeter of the podium, forming a peristyle (colonnade) of a dozen meters high under the roof. It surrounds the "cella" (room of the deity), having a 5 m wide door and probably 8 m in height. It is thought that the height of the "cella" was equal to the diameter of the podium, that is 35.48 m. At the base, a niche was dug where the statue or statues of the deity were placed. In total, the temple was 38.50 m high.
The impressions of fourteen pilasters remain visible, punctuating the facade and supporting the domed ceiling of the cella of which only a small elevation remains. Nowadays one can see a mill, built in the seventeenth century in the centre of the cella.
