Mid & East Antrim Borough council are keen to encourage muggles to take up geocaching as a way to get them out and about in the countryside. On the 24th March they are having an event and as they’ve asked us along to help, we thought we’d have one too!
Where:
In the main building/visitors centre at Carnfunnock Country Park. The park is situated on the Antrim Coast Road (A2), 3.5 miles north of Larne town and Larne Harbour and just over 20 miles from Belfast.
When:
Sunday 24th March 2019, from 1pm to 4pm
Please come along and share your caching tales and experiences with the muggle attendees. There is no obligation to do anything but it would be great to see a good turnout on the day, you never know what we might have up our sleeves! There are also a number of caches in the park.
Please keep an eye on the page for further information closer to the time.
Below is the information the council are using for the event:
Introduce a Muggle to Geocaching
This event is designed to introduce you to the world of Geocaching. Geocaching is the world's largest treasure hunt. The high-tech treasure hunt combines GPS location services with outdoor adventure, and it's fun for all ages.
There are more than 3 million geocaches hidden all around the world in parks, trails and urban areas. In fact, there are probably some near you as you're reading this. But finding the coordinates using a GPS enabled device is only half the game.
On the day there will be a talk introducing the basics of Geocaching and a chance to take a closer look at the type of containers hidden and the camouflage used to disguise them. You will be introduced to the geocaching app and shown how to use it so don’t forget to bring your smartphone! You can also ask questions about establishing your own geocaches and how to look after those. Following this there will be a Geocaching Hunt around the park, this will give you the opportunity to see what geocaches are, the places they can be found and also what they can contain.
