Geocache Description:

30 March 2019, 10:00 - 12:00

Its CITO season!

Come along and earn a souvenir in the first CITO season 2019.

Fairwater Park, Cardiff
Saturday 30th March : 10am - 12noon

Location:

Fairwater Park is located in the Fairwater district of Cardiff centred on National Grid Reference ST141778. The area comprises a hillside of mostly open parkland and the wooded steep-sided valley of the Fairwater Brook (the dell), which lies on the north-west side of the park. At the south-west corner of the site there is a dry ski slope fenced off from the park.

The area was formerly farmland. The area now comprises a hillside of mostly open parkland and the wooded steep-sided valley of the Fairwater Brook.

The land varies in elevation from about 19mOD, where the brook leaves the site in the westernmost corner, to about 42m at the highest point of the hill. At the top of the hill there are almost 360° panoramic views of Cardiff and the country beyond. To the south-east Cardiff Bay Barrage, the Bristol Channel and England are visible whilst to the north the hills of the South Wales Valleys can be seen.

CITO event:

Time 10am-12noon - Saturday 30th March 2019
Meet point at the posted co-ordinates, at the bottom of the Dell along the Elfed Green boundary.
We will be accompanied by a representative from *Keep Cardiff Tidy* who will supply litter picking equipment but please provide your own gloves.
Dependent on numbers we may run out of litter-pickers again so please bring along any helpful items you may have.
Litter gathered will be collected by KCT after the event.

Parking:

Free roadside parking available along Ferrier Avenue (to the West) and Elfed Green (to the North).

Elfed Green (WP1) will be the best parking area for wheelchair/ buggy/ bicycle users as it leads on to a tarmacked path which heads up the hill. Or Sylvan Close (WP3) which leads to a flatter tarmac pathway heading South through the park.

There are steps to access the main park area from the Ferrier Avenue parking waypoint (WP2).

There are other available roadside parking areas around the park. The paths may also be accessed from the Ski and Snowboard Centre car park, via a path from the northern side of Clos y Nant, via a path from the end of Sylvan Close and from two entrances on Fairwater Road, one just west of Marionville Gardens and the other opposite the entrance to Cantonian High School.

Accessibility:

As a Cardiff council park-ground it is accessible to all, and there are tarmacked pathways suitable for wheelchair users. However, some paths to the South of the park are rough surfaced, and there are some steps to negotiate if accessing the park from Ferrier Ave (WP2).

Dogs and children are welcome, though most of the park boundary to the West and North is open access, so please be vigilant near road boundaries.

Hope to see you there!

Please Note

There is an event scheduled for 12.30pm-14.30pm nearby (see below), however there is no requirement to attend both events. If you do choose to help at the litter pick, this event will provide a welcome sit down and convenience stop for those who have worked up an appetite and require a well-earned rest.

If you are planning to attend the event afterwards (GC83ED9 Keep Calm and Geocache) please can you log a WA so we have an idea of how many tables we need to reserve. Many thanks
