Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 2019 Edition of Cache Across Maryland, hosted by the Maryland Geocaching Society. This is one of ten geocaches placed throughout the "Old Line State" in locations chosen to showcase Maryland's diverse beauty, history and terrain. From the mountains of Western Maryland to the Atlantic Ocean, Cache Across Maryland 2019 will again demonstrate that Maryland truly is “America in Miniature”.

Each of the ten geocaches contains a code which you will use to determine the location of the CAM 2019 Picnic to be held on May 4th, 2019. The code can be found on the inside of the cache container and on the inside front cover of the logbook. Don't forget to record this code! Any geocacher who has completed all TEN of the CAM geocaches and attends the CAM Picnic on May 4th will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Cache Across Maryland 2019 commemorative geocoin in antique copper. We hope you enjoy CAM 2019!

Beverly-Triton Beach Park

BT BeachSite of a former private resort that featured entertainment and slot machines, this 341 acre waterfront park features a car-top boat launch (no trailers), fishing opportunities, trails and a picnic area.  The park overlooks the Chesapeake Bay, and contains Beverly Lake and Deep Pond.  All park waters are brackish, and any fishing will require the appropriate Maryland State fishing license. There are about 5 miles of natural trails in the park.  Trails can be very muddy at times, so wear appropriate footwear.

When this area opened in the 1920's, it was originally platted for more than a hundred single-family homes.  Edward Kalb, a Baltimore attorney and purchaser of this land, also bought neighboring Ford Beach (renamed to Triton) in 1942.  Kalb built a day resort on the site, as well as his own personal residence.  Three pavilions were built, and in those pavilions you could find refreshments, a dining area, a dance floor and a bandstand.  In the late 1940s, the dance area was converted to a bingo hall.

During the resort's hayday, hundreds of cars and busloads of people would come from the Washington and Baltimore areas.  As with other parks of that era, segregation was strong.  Admission to the resort was set up for "members only", and membership was discriminantely issued at the gate.  In the 1950s, a court order rejected this membership subterfuge, and rather than desegregate, Kalb closed the resort in 1968.
