Geocache Description:

27 April 2019, 10:00 - 12:30

Join us Saturday, April 27th for a morning of stewardship, socializing, and geocaching as we do a little Spring cleaning at Crosswinds Marsh.

Show your appreciation for the park's support of geocaching by helping spruce up the marsh.  We’ll provide everything you need to remove the litter that pollutes the trails and waterway and puts fish and wildlife in danger. A small prize will be awarded to those who pull out the most litter.  There will be CITO opportunities on land and there will also be a limited number of park canoes available should you wish to clean up the waterways. (The park will be providing the required life jackets, Children under 12 years must have an adult in the canoe),  Please note that personal watercrafts are prohibited at the marsh..

Like all CITO events, be sure  to bring gloves, boots, and old clothes for the clean up (and a change of clothes for afterwards if needed).  Also please bring a long handled net if available..

Crosswinds Marsh is one of the largest man-made wetlands in the country.  It was built to replace the wetlands that were paved over to expand Wayne County's Detroit Metro Airport (the McNamara terminal).   Wayne County, together with Sumpter Township, purchased over 900 acres of farmland that believe it or not, was once wetland that had been converted into farm fields by draining the land in a process that took over a year.   They flooded former farm fields, planted new wetland plants and transplanted endangered species from metro Airport.  The area is managed by the Wayne County Parks.

The Crosswinds Cache Crew pledge to develop and maintain quality and interesting geocaches in the Marsh consistent with Geocaching and Wayne County Parks rules and permit process.
