Land's End Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

steve4nlanguage: Covid sucks and unfortunately I can't maintain this cache right now. It's a shame because this is a great scenic location. I'm archiving it for now with the hope that one day, when this pandemic craziness is over, I can make a similar cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to one of the most picturesque places on Beigan Island, the Mt. Nigu peninsula.

Enjoy the lovely scenery as you find information at each of the Waypoints to calculate the final coordinates. The distance between the stages totals more than 2 kilometers, so some kind of transportation is recommended.

Waypoint 1 is at the posted coordinates. This is the beginning of the road that leads to Mt. Nigu. Find the sign below. In the upper right corner is a two-digit number, represented by A and B.

AB = The two-digit number on the sign.

Waypoint 2 is a grave site. Find the family name Chinese character on the sign in the photo, then find the same character in the chart. The number that matches the name will be the value for C.

Family Names

1. Cai

14. Lü

2. Chen

15. Luo

3. Gao

16. Qiu

4. Guo

17. Su

5. He

18. Wang

6. Hong

19. Wu

7. Huang

20. Xiao

8. Jiang

21. Xie

9. Lai

22. Xu

10. Li

23. Yang

11. Liao

24. Ye

12. Lin

25. Zeng

13. Liu

26. Zhou

C = The number of the Chinese name on the grave.

Waypoint 3 is located at a military building. The address plate by the front door has a two-digit number, as in the photo. The two digits represent D and E.

DE = The two numbers in the address.

Waypoint 4 is at the end of the left-hand fork in the road that leads to the end of the Mt. Nigu peninsula. There you will see a great view of the south coast of Beigan, and beyond. You'll also find a structure with the sign in the photo. There are 4 numbers represented by FGHI.

FGHI = The four numbers in the sign.

Waypoint 5 is a lookout platform at the end of the right-hand fork in the road that leads to the end of the Mt. Nigu peninsula (You might want to use this shelter when calculating the final coordinates). Here, there are some steps down that lead even closer to the coast. Walk down these steps.

About halfway down you will see two Chinese stone lions guarding the path, similar to the photo. What color is painted on these lions?

1=Black; 2=Blue; 3=Brown; 4=Green; 5=Orange; 6=Pink; 7=Purple; 8=Red; 9=Yellow; 0=White. The color number is represented by J.

J = The number for the color of the stone lions.

The final coordinates are:

N 26° 11.XXX E 119° 58.YYY

XXX = (G*H*I*J) - F - 910
YYY = (B*C*D*E) + A - 378

You can check your solution below at Geocheck. If you don't have Internet access, you can use the following checksums: A+B+C+D+E=25; F+G+H+I+J=26

I hope you enjoy this little tour of Mt. Nigu's "Land's End" area. Don't forget to bring a pen!
