Geocache Description:

The Luobang Nature Trail is an 800m walking trail (1.6km round trip) along the windswept hills of Beigan Island in the Matsu Island Chain. The trail was formerly used by fishermen and oyster gatherers, but is now a nature hike. Because of the constant wind, there is little vegetation besides the eruya shrubs which have been sculpted into bonsai-like shapes by the monsoons.

At the end of the trail, between Mt. Luo and Mt. Bang, you'll see an interesting rock formation carved by wind and sea erosion. Formerly called "Great King of the Sea" by local residents, it is now thought to resemble Confucius. This natural sculpture represents both a guardian diety and philosophical teacher.

To find the cache, go to the bottom of the steps that lead to the lookout platform with the information sign. Do not continue down the steep path that leads to the shore. At the bottom of the steps that lead to the lookout platform, turn left, and about 5 meters away you'll find the cache next to a large stone.

The trail winds along near cliff edges and there are no handrails. There are some steep narrow steps, as well as one small area that requires climbing on rocks with the aid of ropes; therefore, I have rated it T2.5. There is usually constant strong wind so please be very careful!

Please bring your own pen; the log sheet must be signed to qualify as a Find.
