Geocache Description:

At this exact location Highway 205 crosses Rocky River, which serves as the divide between Stanly and Union Counties in North Carolina. The Oakboro Blueway is a public access area that is great for family picnics, and fun while exploring on the banks of the river. Also, a perfect pace to drop in with your kayak, and paddle down stream to the larger Pee Dee River. Please be aware that this public park has an automatic gate timer that closes outside of park hours. Those hours are listed in the picture above. This cache is best found during the daytime. PLEASE respect the rules and regulations posted on the signs, and be clean in your outdoor manners. These parks are here for us to enjoy, not destroy.

WHAT TO DO......... To find this cache, you will need to park in the gravel lot area that you pull into off of Highway 205. Once you're there, you need to walk towards the river on the pathway that goes downhill, through a gate. You'll notice a small monument that has been placed on the left of the pathway. Stop and check it out if you like. You should also be able to see the kayak landing on the river bank. Turn right at the bottom of the path, and proceed under the bridge. Once you have walked to the other side and are underneath the open sky again, you should have a look around, and hopefully see where you need to be looking to find the container. You'll be searching for a green ammo can. It's not difficult to find, but the terrain MAY be a little unforgiving for smaller kiddos.

At the time that this cache was placed, I had provided two small golf pencils, and a sharpener to sign the log book, but BYOP just in case they're gone. I'm sorry for not having any sort of official FTF award inside for a lucky GCer, but at I hope the amount of goodies I included are enough to satisfy everyone's swag desires anyway. This is my first ever geocache placement, and I have had great inspiraton from the many finds I have already made since starting to geocache just last year. I recently moved to Oakboro from Charlotte, and after doing some scouting around in the area, I decided that this location needed a good geocache. I hope I provided a fun and adventurous location that will deliver many smileys on the map for any and all who come here. ENJOY!
