Setenil de las Bodegas es un municipio de la provincia de Cádiz famoso por la singularidad y belleza de su entramado urbano, tanto es así que fue declarado Conjunto Histórico y es uno de los principales destinos turísticos de la Sierra de Cádiz. Se trata de casas que están excavadas en una montaña por lo que los tejados son las propias rocas.
Las calles están adaptadas al curso del río Guadalporcún y sus habitantes han sabido aprovechar el tajo que el río forma en la roca para construir las casas. Este tipo de viviendas tiene el nombre de “abrigo bajo rocas”, ”: las casas no están excavadas en la roca como en sucede en el Sacromonte, sino que se cierran las paredes rocosas para después hacer las casas. Esto ha dado lugar a rincones tan bonitos como las calles de la Cuevas de la Sombra y de las Cuevas del Sol, que tienen la particularidad de que solo podemos ver la roca de la montaña, en lugar del cielo, cuando miramos hacia arriba.
También podéis visitar el Castillo de Setenil de las Bodegas que está en la parte alta del casco urbano, junto a la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Su origen es medieval, de los siglos XIV y XV, pero aún conserva la Torre del Homenaje y un aljibe. Pertenece al Patrimonio Histórico Español desde 1985 y en 1993 la Junta de Andalucía le dio el reconocimiento especial a los castillos de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía.

You can also visit the Setenil de las Bodegas Castle, which is in the upper part of the town, next to the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation. Its origin is medieval, from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, but still retains the Torre del Homenaje and a cistern. It belongs to the Spanish Historical Heritage since 1985 and in 1993 the Junta de Andalucía gave special recognition to the castles of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.
