Brummelbear (Leo Hauer) April 7, 1944 – March 17, 2018

Team Rumble, Brummelbear, Rattrak

On February 4, 2006 the first Geocaching event in the Detroit City limits was held on Belle Isle. Brummelbear wanted to create an event for any out of town cachers that might come to Detroit for Superbowl XL to be held the following day. He gathered up some help from Peepz and Rattrak to place caches and to help pull off the event. Cold, wind, rain, sleet and snow did not keep the 22 teams that showed from enjoying the day. The following year Rattrak had to do a little arm twisting with Brummelbear to have an annual event on Belle Isle, with their love for Detroit and Belle Isle the event was secured for years to come. Those first few years found Brummelbear, Peepz and Rattrak placing new caches on the island each spring. As the event grew Brummelbear and Rattrak created The Belle Isle Cachers, which in future years added Team Legend 4 and finally Team Rumble to the Belle Isle Cachers. The only way the event could happen is with plenty of help from the rest of the caching community with Darryl W4 being the number one biggest contributor of his time each year from early on, a true member of this team. With a few year hiatus from the team is great to have Team Legend 4 back full time for event 14.

9:00 start the event with a raffle of Brummelbear collected swag
9:30 FTF chances raffle and cords to the new caches given out
Pot Luck Lunch: 11:30 to 1:30 (or until the food is gone)

This year’s event theme is our tribute to our friend and team mate Brummelbear. All caches are flash backs of caches he had placed here on Belle Isle in the past along with a few add that he placed in the city of Detroit. Many are the same location on the island and others modified to fit in areas he enjoyed. Most containers are of the size and style he would have place and most are ones he had left behind. Please read the caches pages with thoughts and memories of our good friend, enjoy!
