Geocache Description:

The Fredericton Region Museum, formerly known as the York Sunbury Museum, is a small, non-profit museum founded in 1932 by the York Sunbury Historical Society. The museum was housed in several different locations until 1959, when it moved into Officers’ Square on Queen Street in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  This year marks the 60th Anniversary in Officers’ Square.  Each cache features an exhibit or historical figure.  Find five caches to receive a limited edition Geocoin while quantities last.

The Wolastoqewiyik have lived in this territory since time immemorial. They travelled all over their ancestral lands by means of the flowing waterways. The watersheds provided an extensive network of interconnected pathways leading to adjacent watersheds and the homelands of neighbours, allies, and trading partners. Between 1725 and 1779 a series of treaties known as the Peace and Friendship Treaties were signed between the British Crown and the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqew and Passamaquoddy. These treaties recognize and confirm that the Wolastoqewiyik have rights that need to be recognized and honoured.
