Events

1606 – The Virginia Company loads three ships with settlers and sets sail to establish Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas.
1803 – The Louisiana Purchase is completed at a ceremony in New Orleans.
1860 – South Carolina becomes the first state to attempt to secede from the United States.
1941 – World War II: First battle of the American Volunteer Group, better known as the "Flying Tigers" in Kunming, China.
1946 – The popular Christmas film It's a Wonderful Life is first released in New York City.
1951 – The EBR-1 in Arco, Idaho becomes the first nuclear power plant to generate electricity. The electricity powered four light bulbs.

1989 – The United States invasion of Panama deposes Manuel Noriega. As the U.S. invasion advanced, Noriega with few options obtained refuge in the Vatican diplomatic mission in Panama City. The U.S. military applied psychological pressure on him by playing loud rock-and-roll music day and night, based around Noriega's supposed loathing of rock music. He finally surrendered to the U.S. military on 3 January 1990. ACDC said Rock’n’Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution, but maybe Twisted Sister said it best - You Can’t Stop Rock’n’roll!

Today is ” National Regifting Day ”!

Nothing brightens one’s day then receiving a gift and it is the holiday season for giving. But you don’t always receive something you want or could use. What to do? Re-Gift!

So tip toe through those past gifts that have never made it out of their original package and see what would look great in new wrap, and someone else’s possession. The website regiftable.com conducted a survey in 2007 and here are a few stats they discovered:
- Nearly seven out of ten (68%) women regift or are thinking about it (compared with only 47% of men).
- 42% of respondents said they would regift to save money -- compared to only 33% respondents in 2005. 25% of our respondents think that regifting is growing in popularity because consumers are doing it as a way to save on holiday expenses.
- 14% of respondents think that regifting is growing in popularity because it is a form of recycling.
- Most regifters have good intentions -- 62% regift because they think it is something the recipient would really like.
- Regifting is becoming more widely accepted, 60% of respondents think so. Even more telling, less than 10% of respondents claimed they would be unhappy to receive a regift. 18% even claimed they would be happy or amused to be on the receiving end of a regift.

If you are thinking about regifting this holiday season, ask yourself the following questions:
- Is the gift regiftable? Never regift handmade or one-of-a-kind items. Signed books and monogrammed items are off-limits. Do you have to be told not to regift free promotional items? Some gifts that are good candidates for regifting include good (unopened!) bottles of wine, new household items and inexpensive jewelry. I worked at one place where the owner gave the employees the free supplier items he had got throughout out the year. I still have one coffee cup.
- How is the condition? Only new, unopened gifts in good condition should be considered for regifting. Never give partially used gift cards. Don’t give items that you have owned for a long time. A general rule of thumb: if you have to dust it off, it is not regiftable. This one is close to home for me after I got a used deodorant stick. Yeah, beat that.
- Is this going to work? Successful regifters use common sense. If you are going to regift, be sure you know who gave you the item, so you don’t return something to the original giver. Only regift items to people who are not likely to see the original giver.
- And finally, do you have good intentions? Don’t just give a gift to give a gift. Be sure that the recipient will appreciate the item. Remember, if you feel that an item is undesirable, the recipient probably will too. If you are regifting simply because you ran out of time, gift cards are simple to obtain and always well received. A gift card says you were too busy to shop, but not so lazy to at least get a card.

So as we head towards the Christmas holiday next week, I’ll trot out an old regift of my own – a breakfast event! Enjoy the smiley!

Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 6:30am - 7:30am. (Oh yes, AM, in the morning, bright and early, rise and shine sleepy head). You may stay longer if you'd like, that depends on what time you have to show up for work or be somewhere else.

Where?
We will be meeting for a good, hearty breakfast at LaRue’s Family Resturant, with easy access from US-131 and I-94.

Who?
Everyone is welcome at the event!

What Do I Bring?
Bring a good, hearty appetite and be ready to share some of the best memories you have of geocaching; including, but not limited to, best caches, best events, best hospital story, best encounter with local law enforcement authorities, etc.

What do I do AFTER the event?
If you don't have to go to work or be somewhere else, we suggest you get out and cache!!! Either alone or with one of the groups that will, undoubtedly, be formed before, during or after the event. A great geocaching day can start here!
