Når du står her på nullpunktet og ser i retning nord-nordvest, ser du en viking stå på en holme i vannet like nedenfor. Skulpturen er av Tore Hund, og er laget av multikunstneren Geir Samuelsen, som har sitt atelier i det nærmeste bygget til der du står nå. Kunstneren har en sterk interesse for Vikinghistorien. Historien bak skulpturen er at Samuelsen visste at det var en gammel navigasjonsinnretning på holmen som ikke lenger var i bruk, og han søkte Kystverket om han kunne få erstattet den rustne stolpen med noe "friskere". Det var de positive til. Samuelsen hadde et ønske om lage en skulptur av en ung Tore Hund med skjold og spyd. Han kaller dette en siluettskulptur, den er grov i formen. Den er laget av betong med mikrosement ytterst. Den veier 350 kg (!), er cirka 170 cm høy og det krevde 7 menn for å få den på plass. Han synes at Harstad ikke har vært flinke nok til å markere Tore Hunds historie, og med dette har han fått en liten turistattraksjon like nedenfor sitt eget hus. Ved flo sjø er det såvidt man ser noe av skulpturen, da er det nesten bare hodet som stikker opp av vannet.
When you are standing here at ground zero looking north- northwest, you can see a viking standing on a small islet just below. The sculpture is made by Geir Samuelsen, a local multi artist. He has his atelier in the house closest to where you are standing right now. The artist has a strong interest for the history of the Vikings. The story behind the sculpture is that Samuelsen knew there was an old navigational device on the islet that was no longer in use, and he applied to the Norwegian Coastal Administration if he could replace the rusty pole with something "fresher". Which they were positive to do. Samuelsen had a wish to create a sculptur of a your Thorir Hund, with spear and shield. He calls this a silhouette sculpture, with a rough shape. It is made out of concrete, with an exterior of micro cement. The sculpture weighs 350 kg (!), is approximately 170 cm tall and it took 7 men to get it in place on the islet. Samuelsen thinks that the history of the vikings, and Thorir Hund especially, is not properly shown in and around Harstad. With this sculpture he has gotten a small tourist attraction in his own backyard. During high tide the sculpture is barely visible, the head is just seen over the water.
