Deze Amsterdam-’trail’ is een samenwerkingsverband tussen 15 Amsterdamse cachers die elk een eigen cache hebben geplaatst namens de Amsterdam Area Geocachers. Samen vormen deze caches de 3 Andreaskruizen uit het Wapen van Amsterdam.

General

This Amsterdam ‘trail’ is a cooperation between 15 cachers from Amsterdam who each have placed their own cache on behalf of the Amsterdam Area Geocachers. Combined these caches form the 3 Andreas crosses that can be found in the Coat of Arms of Amsterdam.

Je vindt deze kruizen overal in de stad. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de beroemde ‘Amsterdammertjes’, de bruine paaltjes die menig grachtenpand en voetganger beschermen tegen roekeloze automobilisten. Maar ook de gemeente Amsterdam heeft de kruizen uit het wapen omarmd en toegepast als haar logo.

The crosses can be found all over the city. Take the famous ‘Amsterdammertjes’ for example, the brown little poles that protect the canal houses and pedestrians from reckless car drivers. Furthermore the municipality of Amsterdam has embraced the crosses from the coat and used it as their logo.

De 15 caches die de kruizen vormen zijn alle vijftien traditionele caches. Ze verschillen qua vorm en grootte, maar zijn allemaal makkelijk te vinden. In de hint vind je een specifieke aanwijzing voor de cache die je nu voor je neus hebt. We wensen je heel veel plezier met de Amsterdam-trail. The 15 caches that form the crosses are all traditional caches. They differ from each other when looking at shape and size, but the are all easy to find. In the hint you will find a specific clue for the cache you are looking at now. We hope you enjoy doing this Amsterdam trail. Let us know in your final log whether you found them all!

Over deze locatie

Deze cache ligt langs de oude Buiksloterdijk. Reeds in de Middeleeuwen lag hier het dorpje Buiksloot; de dijk beschermde destijds het dorpje tegen het zeewater dat een zijarm vormde van de Noordzee. Begin 19e eeuw werd begonnen met het graven van het Noordhollands kanaal om een simpele vaarroute te creëren tussen Amsterdam en Den Helder. Sommige van de soms houten dijkhuisjes dateren nog uit die tijd, en zijn dus al meer dan 200 jaar oud! Een wandelingetje over de dijk kunnen we je dan ook van harte aanbevelen. Loop je vanaf de cache nog een klein stukje door, dan kun je even heerlijk aan het water zitten of picknicken!

About this location

This cache is located along the old Buiksloterdijk. Already in the Middle Ages there was the village of Buiksloot; in that era the dyke protected the village against the seawater that formed a branch of the North Sea. In the beginning of the 19th century, a start was made on digging the North Holland Canal in order to create a simple sailing route between Amsterdam and Den Helder. Some of the sometimes wooden dykehouses date from that epoch, so remember these houses are over 200 years old! We strongly recommend to make a nice stroll along the dyke. Walking a bit further along the cache hidingplace, you can enjoy the calmness of the area or even have a picknick!
