Geocache Description:


Thomas Lord Catlow was born in 1889 in Coalville at 30 Mantle Lane. He attended Christchurch & Bible Classes. He was an apprentice blacksmith at Stablefords Wagonworks, on the 1911 census he was a Blacksmith Striker and after the war, which he survived he became a bus conductor.

He married Edith Thirlby at Whitwick Church & from 1936 lived at 197 Thornborough Lane. His son George managed a shop in Coalville. He was discharged from the army due to injury and worked at a munitions factory in Nottingham. He died in January 1978 in Tilson House, Greenhill, Coalville. 

 

First 50 Heroes

The Coalville Heroes Series celebrates the first fifty volunteers from our area to take part in the Great War of 1914-18. Each geocache commemorates a real volunteer and describes his activities during the Great War.
