Geocache Description:

On December 25th, 2008 Iowa's first 5/5 cache was placed by SuperGoober and Parabola (aka Tapeworm).    The Siege was published on January 3rd 2009 and a small group of cachers (The Weasel, busterbabes, spivababe, SKH and Ghost)  were brave enough to make the trek out there in the snow to claim the FTF.  It is difficult to believe that this was almost ten years ago!  Since that time, 110 people have made the trip out to find this cache and sign the log!

Let's get together and celebrate the 10th anniversary of this historic cache!  (okay, it will be about a month short of the 10 year anniversary, but the weather in December is unpredictable, so I thought that 9 years and 11 months was close enough to the 10 year anniversary!)  Let's plan on meeting at the parking lot of the Eastern Iowa Observatory and share some stories about  this cache.  At least one of the CO's and one of the original FTF crew will be there.

OPTIONAL: After the event is over, those that are interested can take the hike out to this historic cache.  Super Goober will be joining us on this hike and he will provide the appropriate TOTTS necessary to retrieve the cache.  This is an extreme hike with rough terrain, so please know your limits.  I don't want anyone getting hurt, so please do not attempt this hike if you are not physically able.  So if you have never found the Siege or you just want to revisit this cool cache (seriously, the view at GZ is AMAZING!), we hope that you can make it!  The weeds and the bugs should be dead by then, but you will still want to wear long pants and long sleeves.  Good shoes/boots are essential, too!  You will also want to bring some water along to stay hydrated along the way.  (even in colder weather, it is a good idea to bring some water!)   It should take about 2 hours for the round trip journey.  You do not need to to hike out to the Siege to attend the event!

12:00 Noon  Meet at the parking lot and share stories about The Siege

12:30 Group Picture

12:35 Optional Hike out to The Siege

We hope to have a good turnout of cachers to celebrate this amazing cache as it reaches its 10 year anniversay!
