Located in the Alpine National Park, 323Km from Melbourne CBD. The Drive to the trailhead should take around 5 hours from Melbourne. You will get to the trailhead in a 2WD vehicle.
From the trailhead to Gantner Hut is approximately a 4Km Hike. I intend to camp at the hut on Friday night(31st).
The Event: 1st December 2018, 12.00-12.30PM. This Event is a lunchtime event on the top of Mount Howitt, it will be BYO everything, you will need to be self sufficient.
Getting There: Best parking is at the Trailhead coordinates which is approximately a 5 Hour Drive from Melbourne. You will then need to load up your backpack with anything you need and start walking.
The Walk: Mount Howitt is a 14km, Return hike. I would suggest packing your camping gear and spending the night nearby at Gantner Hut. (That is what I will be doing)
New to camping and Hiking? Don't worry, this hike is the perfect beginner hike and while it can be done in a day, I would suggest taking your time and soaking in the views and stay overnight.
Again, I would like to stress the need to be self sufficient. You will need to bring your own food and gear including first aid. With gear, you will need to allow for high country weather. You could expect 4 seasons in 1 day!!
