Learn about stormwater Best Management Practices
(BMPs) by completing this multi-cache and at the same time get a small slice of what Lake County has to offer.
This geocache is sponsored by the Lake County, Illinois Stormwater Management Commission (SMC). The objective of this multi-cache is to find 4 different caches and learn about Best Management Practices (BMPs) along the way. Stormwater BMPs are acceptable practices designed to improve water quality by preventing or reducing stormwater runoff pollution, conserving water and recharging the aquifer. Each site will have different BMPs that you will learn about. Once you complete the multi-cache you will receive a GeoCoin from SMC. At each site there will be a GeoCoin question that you will need to know the answer to in order to receive your SMC GeoCoin. Once you find the last cache and the answers to the Cache questions you will either come to our office to receive your GeoCoin if it is during business hours (8-4 Mon-Fri) or you will receive our contact information and your GeoCoin will be mailed to you. The coordinates for the first cache are: N 42° 23.919' W 88° 7.636' W
Each cache contains further instructions and GPS coordinates to the next cache. There will also be post-it notes and a pencil so you can write down your answers to the GeoCoin Questions.
The caches are located on or adjacent to bike and walking trails. The distance from the first cache to the final cache is approximately 26 miles.
PLEASE NOTE: You will be entering Nature Preserves, Forest Preserves, a Village Park and a county facility. You will be on public property. Please respect these areas by staying on marked paths and obeying facility rules.
Remember trash in-trash out. We have a limited number of geocoins. Individual geocachers will each receive one geocoin. Geocachers in groups affiliated with a organization will receive one geocoin for the group. Individual circumstances may vary and we will try to accommodate whenever possible.
REMEMBER TO NOTE THE ANSWER FOR EACH QUESTION AT THE SITES. YOU WILL NEED TO ANSWERS THE THREE QUESTIONS CORRECTLY TO GET YOUR GEOCOIN.
