Le Petit Train est un symbole du Cap Ferret.
30 000 personnes l’empruntent chaque année pour rejoindre l’Océan
(plage de l'Horizon") depuis le débarcadère de Bélisaire.
La
presqu'île du Cap Ferret connaît un début d'activité touristique avec
l'ouverture de la ligne de chemin de fer Bordeaux à Arcachon, réalisée
en 1857. Dès 1877, Jean Saugeon, gabarrier et entrepreneur de
transport à Bordeaux, a ouvert une ligne maritime, entre Arcachon et
et le Cap-Ferret, où il a fait construire un débarcadère desservi
par un des tout premiers vapeurs « Le Seudre ». Après le train et la
traversée en bateau, le chemin était encore long pour atteindre
l'océan et d'autres lieux, cet inconvénient suscite l'installation de
plusieurs petites lignes de chemin de fer sur le Cap Ferret.
A l'origine, le petit train est tracté par des chevaux : c'est le
“tramway hippomobile”.
Selon les tracés, il conduit les premiers touristes de la fin du XIXe
siècle au pied du Phare du Cap Ferret, à la Pointe ou traverse la
forêt pour rejoindre son terminus à l'Océan.
Vers 1925, un tracteur à essence remplace le cheval, et vers 1936 le
dernier de ces petits réseaux ferrés cesse son exploitation, en raison
du réseau routier qui s'est développé avec l'urbanisation du
Cap-Ferret.
Au début des années 1950 renaît l'idée d'une liaison ferroviaire entre
l'embarcadère et l'océan, elle est imaginée et mise en œuvre
par Jacques Milet. Il est greffier dans le Périgord lorsqu'il
découvre le Cap-Ferret alors qu'il est en convalescence à Arcachon,
passionné de chemins de fer, il connaît tout sur les lignes à voie
étroite, il va porter le projet d'un retour du tramway.On lui doit la
circulation du petit train tel que nous le connaissons, inauguré
officiellement en 1954 après deux années d'essai.
Le Petit Train est aujourd'hui géré par l'Association Le Tacot des
Lacs.

Pourquoi
"VERT" / Why "VERT" ?

Ma première cache posée (GC3VHY2) était une boîte verte,
avec un stylo vert, un log book vert et des objets
d'échange verts. Ainsi est née l'idée de placer les caches
qui ont suivi sous le signe du "VERT" et de proposer un
challenge consistant à y déposer de préférence des objets
"VERTs". Ce challenge ne peut malheureusement pas
concerner les caches de taille nano ou micro.

The Petit Train is a symbol of Cap Ferret.
30,000 people use it every year to reach the Ocean (Horizon
Beach), from the pier in Bélisaire.
The peninsula of Cap Ferret has started its tourist activity with
the opening of the Bordeaux railway line in Arcachon, realized in
1857. As early as 1877, Jean Saugeon, a "gabarrier" and
transportation contractor in Bordeaux, opened a shipping line
between Arcachon and Cap-Ferret, where he had a pier built and
served by one of the very first "Le Seudre" steamers. After the
train and the boat crossing, the road was still long to reach the
ocean and other places, this inconvenience caused the installation
of several small railway lines on the Cap Ferret.
Originally, the small train is towed by horses: it is the
“hippomobile tram”.
According to the maps, it leads the first tourists of the late
nineteenth century to the foot of the Cap Ferret Lighthouse, to
the Pointe or through the forest to reach its terminus at the
Ocean.
Around 1925, a petrol tractor replaced the horse, and around 1936
the last of these small railway networks ceased its operation,
because of the road network that developed with the urbanization
of Cap-Ferret.
In the early 1950s, the idea of a rail link between the pier and
the ocean was revived, and it was conceived and implemented by
Jacques Milet. He is a clerk in the Périgord when he discovers the
Cap-Ferret while he is convalescing in Arcachon, passionate about
railways, he knows everything about narrow-gauge lines, He will
carry the project of a return of the tramway. He was responsible
for the operation of the small train as we know it, officially
inaugurated in 1954 after two years of testing.
Le Petit Train is now managed by the Association Le Tacot des
Lacs.
