The station was opened on 1 August 1852 by Great Northern Railway.
It closed on 16 September 1957. Very little of the station survives today. From the crossing looking north, you might just be able to make out the remains of the old platforms. East Coast mainline trains still pass through the site today and it is used as a holding yard by Network Rail.
