The beautiful village of Eyeries with its well-known colourful houses sits with a superb vantage point over Coulagh Bay and we have been baffled that prior to placing this cache there were no caches here. This cache has been placed in a location which forms an excellent vantage point over the bay (and from which geocaching activity can easily be disguised as admiring the view/photography).
The village is frequently well placed in the Tidy Towns competition, and while the local Tidy Towns organisers are aware of the cache, please ensure it is replaced exactly as found so it is not visible to avoid it being mistaken for rubbish and discarded.
The beauty of Eyeries has been recognised in film and TV, with the 1977 film 'The Purple Taxi' and the 1998 series 'Falling for a Dancer' both featuring Eyeries. Shots of Eyeries have also been frequently used in publicity for both Irish and Beara tourism.
There are a surprising number of amenities available in the village, including a Post Office, shop/petrol station, 2 pubs (1 of which has superb views over the bay at the back), a church, 2 cafes, a caravan park and multiple holiday homes. For those looking for something more than a simple drive-by cache, there are several coastal loop walks which are an excellent way to pass the time (who knows, maybe we'll add some more caches along these walks in time!). There are also ample shore fishing spots.
Every late July, Eyeries hosts a family festival with activities (most of which are free or minimal cost) for those of all ages and it really is not to be missed if you happen to be around while it is on. We are reliably informed that visitors travel annually from all around the world just for this event!
