Come join the Maryland Geocaching Society at the Jug Bay Natural Area of Patuxent River Park for a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) on Saturday, September 22nd at 10am. The listed coordinates will lead you to parking near the VIsitor's Center where we will meet for the clean-up. This is an excellent opportunity to give back to Mother Earth by picking up trash and helping with trail maintenance at this great Maryland park. The Jug Bay Natural Area is the headquarters for Patuxent River Park, the largest freshwater tidal wetland in Maryland. It is home to the Patuxent Rural Life Museum, 14 miles of scenic woodland trails (hike, bike or horseback), an American Indian Village, and camping, picnic and boating opportunities. There are two tidal fishing areas open year-round, two standard boat ramps (no fuel facilities or overnight tie-ups), and canoe and kayak rentals. The park offers guided tours (by boat or trail) and environmental educational programs. Waterfowl hunting is permitted in designated areas. Jug Bay is part of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network, a partnership of parks, refuges, museums, historical communities and trails where you can learn about and experience life on the Chesapeake. This park is also part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Maryland, a nationwide network of diverse coastal estuaries that serve as laboratories for scientific research, education and monitoring. Schedule
We will be assisting the park staff with light trash pick up, or possibly some invasive species removal.
Parking
Parking is available near the Visitor Center near the end of the park entrance road (posted coordinates). The Visitor Center is located at 16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro, MD.
What to bring
Trash bags and gloves will be provided by the park. You may wish to consider bringing handy items such as gardening gloves, old sturdy sneakers or knee boots, bug/tick spray, handi-grabbers, and plenty of drinking water.
