Geocache Description:

Take a quick tour of this historic New York City area and get another smiley, Wherigo-style!

Special thanks to LinedUpLikeLemmings for beta-testing this one for me before I rolled it out!

Welcome to the New York Public Library system! This cache has limited hours of availability, which are listed below on the cache page.

Did you know that every branch of the New York Public Library offers free Wi-Fi? That's great news for all geocachers visiting from out of town!

***WOW!!! Geocachers who have found at least 4 NYPL caches are eligible for a Level 1 bronze pathtag! Geocachers who find at least 8 NYPL caches are eligible for a Level 2 silver pathtag! And any geocachers that have found 12 or more NYPL caches are eligible for the Level 3 GOLD pathtag as well! If you think you qualify, please send me a note and I will get your tag(s) out to you.

Update: May 2017 - I have been notified by the New York City Geocaching Community that the NYPL Series of caches has won the award for Best Series in NYC in 2016!! Thank you to everyone who has visited to this point as your logs are a big reason why this has happened!

Murray Hill is a Manhattan neighborhood which has a history that extends back in time to the 18th century. It is named after the first family who lived in the area. Robert and Mary Murray were Quakers who established their home and family in the area in the 18th Century. Their physical house was, at the time, built on a hill which became popularly known as Murray Hill.

To find this cache you will first need to download the Wherigo cartridge to your phone or GPS at the link listed below:

http://www.wherigo.com/cartridge/details.aspx?CGUID=c8bb9181-8eec-474f-9c0b-fa215dde745c

Stage 1 - Go to the posted coordinates to start the Wherigo. You will be in the middle of Park Avenue on the south side of 37th Street. There will be a plaque on the ground in the garden which you will need to view to answer the first question of your Wherigo.

Prior to being published this Wherigo was tested on an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy. From those experiences, I would suggest the following. Pay attention to the text on each page of the Wherigo. It will be helpful in directing you where to go next since GPS reception in NYC can be very spotty at times. Also, please be patient when getting to certain zones. It may take a few moments for the Wherigo cartridge to lock into the zone, but both phones were successful in completing the entire Wherigo in about 20 minutes or so.

Please note that the final is only available during the following hours:

Monday - 10am to 6pm

Tuesday - 10am to 6pm

Wednesday - 10am to 6pm

Thursday - 10am to 6pm

Friday - 10am to 6pm

Saturday - 10am to 5pm

Sunday - cache not available
