1 Manchester is in the heart of the UK and is home to some of the greatest scientific breakthroughs. Manchester is packed with history yet is one of the most forward-thinking cities in the world.

With fantastic national and international transport connections Manchester will be easy for all geocoin collectors and geocachers to get to. See here for details on transport links to the venue.

“Science, Industry and Society”


Manchester has always been a meeting place for scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. Together, their ideas and inventions have transformed the way we live and work.
From the first true canal, to the first test tube baby from discoveries of electrons, protons and neutrons, to the splitting of the atom Manchester has always been at the forefront of science.
Manchester’s industrial heritage started with the cotton trade and boomed in the Industrial revolution. The result was the rapid spread of cotton mills throughout Manchester itself and in the surrounding towns. To these must be added bleach works, textile print works, and the engineering workshops and foundries, all serving the cotton industry. During the mid-19th century Manchester grew to become the centre of Lancashire's cotton industry and was dubbed "Cottonopolis".
Manchester's population exploded as people moved from the surrounding countryside, and from other parts of the British Isles, into the city seeking new opportunities. Particularly large numbers also came from Ireland and it is estimated that about 35% of the population of Manchester and Salford has at least some Irish ancestry. Large numbers of immigrants later came to Manchester from Central and Eastern Europe. To these groups may be added (in later years) Levantines (involved in the Egyptian cotton trade), Germans and Italians. By the end of the 19th century, Manchester was a very cosmopolitan place.

Venue



The main venue for Geocoinfest EU 2019 is the Exchange Hall, Manchester Central Exhibition Centre
It has a capacity of 1600 plus upto 11 additional side rooms. Car parking for exhibitors and attendees is available in the NCP carpark beneath the venue.
The venue is less than 10 minutes walk from the main train stations and coach station. Manchester Airport is just 30 minutes by public transport.

Manchester war schon immer Treffpunkt für Wissenschaftler, Ingenieure und Unternehmer. All ihre Ideen und Erfindungen haben die Art wie wir leben und arbeiten verändert.
Vom ersten richtigen Kanal (Bridgewater) bis hin zum ersten Retortenbay , von der Entdeckung der Elektronen, Protonen und Neutronen bis hin zur Kernspaltung lag Manchester immer an der Spitze der Wissenschaft.
Manchesters industrielles Erbe begann mit dem Baumwollhandel und boomte in der Industriellen Revolution. Das Ergebnis war die schnelle Ausbreitung von Baumwollspinnereien in ganz Manchester und den umliegenden Städten. Dazu gehörten auch Bleichmittelfabriken, Textildruckereien als auch weitere technische Werkstätten und Gießereien, die der Baumwollindustrie dienten. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde Manchester zum Zentrum der Lancashire Baumwollindustrie, man nannte es „Cottonpolis“.
Manchesters Bevölkerung explodierte förmlich, als Menschen aus dem Umland und anderen Teilen Englands in die Stadt zogen, auf der Suche nach neuen Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten. Ein besonders großer Anteil kam aus Irland und man schätzt, dass mindestens 35 % der Bevölkerung aus Manchester und Salford irische Vorfahren haben. Anschließend kamen viele Einwanderer aus Ost- und Mitteleuropa, später dann auch Einwanderer aus dem Nahen Osten, Deutschland und Italien. Am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts war Manchester ein sehr kosmopolitischer Ort.

Eventgelände



Hauptveranstaltungsort des Geocoinfests EU 2019 ist die Exchange Hall, Manchester Central Exhibition Center.
Das Center hat eine Kapazität von 1600 Besuchern und verfügt über 11 zusätzliche Nebenräume. Parkplätze für Aussteller und Besucher sind im NCP Parkplatz in der Nähe des Tagungsorts verfügbar.
Man erreicht das Eventgelände von den wichtigsten Bahnhöfen und Busstationen in weniger als 10 Minuten zu Fuß . Der Flughafen ist innerhalb 30 Minuten mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreichbar.

Il a une capacité de 1600 personnes, en plus, jusqu'à 11 enceintes latérales supplémentaires. Un parking pour les exposants et les participants est disponible au parking NCP situé sous le site.
Le lieu est à moins de 10 minutes à pied de la gare principale et de la gare routière. L'aéroport de Manchester est à seulement 30 minutes en transports en commun.
