Geocache Description:


The cache is along the Missouri Valley Millennium Legacy Trail, in Mandan.  This section of the trail runs from 6th Ave. SE to Prairie West Golf Club.

Trail Rules

·       Walkers, joggers and bikers please keep to the right when using the trails.

·       All dogs must be on a leash.

·       Be aware of traffic approaching and behind you.

·       Be aware of intersections and crossings.

·       Please pick up your and your pets litter.

 

You will need to bring your own writer, as there is no room in the cache for one.  Please place cache back in the location you find it.

More about the Missouri Valley Millennium Legacy Trail: Bismarck and Mandan share the honor of received one of 52 national Millennium Legacy Trail designations for their Missouri Valley Millennium Trail. The cities were recognized for their efforts in developing the recreation trail system and connection between the two cities.  The 52 “Millennium Legacy Trails” where selected from nomination by Governors of the states and jurisdictions that acknowledged the benefits they bring to the people and communities they connect.

The Millennium Trails initiative promotes trails as a means of preserving open spaces, interpreting history and culture, enhancing recreation and tourism, improving physical fitness, and connecting our daily lives with the natural environment. Under this initiative, trails across America were recognized, enhanced, or built as part of our nation’s legacy for the new millennium. These include hiking trails, bicycle paths, greenways and scenic byways through rural and urban landscapes, and cultural and heritage trails that preserve and commemorate major events in our nation’s history. The promise and challenge of Millennium Trails is to preserve and enhance a precious part of our national heritage for future generations of Americans to treasure and enjoy. The Missouri Valley Millennium Trail received this designation in 2001.
 

The Missouri Valley Millennium Legacy Trail connects the people of Bismarck and Mandan to historical, recreational, and cultural places along the Missouri River. These places include the Mandan Indian Village at the Pioneer Park Overlook, Missouri River Greenway, Dakota Zoo, Prairie West Golf Course, Fort Lincoln Trolley, Sitting Bull Bridge interpretive area, The Post, Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Fort McKeen, On-A-Slant earthlodge and the Custer House.
