Geocache Description:

The cache is a lock-and-lock hidden near Jordan Pond a short way off an informal trail that runs from the Cabot Trail to the pond itself. The Cabot trail is one of the shortest trails in Fahnestock that runs from the Perkins trail to the Charcoal Burners trail. The closest trailhead is at Route 301 where the Charcoal Burners trail crosses (for which the parking coordinates are provided). You can either pick up the start of the Perkins trail a short way from 301 along the Charcoal Burners Trail (see trailhead coordinates) and then follow the Perkins trail to the Cabot trail or take the Charcoal Burners trail to its intersection with the Cabot trail. You can combine these into a nice loop hike starting and ending at 301. You may find a trail map at https://parks.ny.gov/parks/attachments/ClarenceFahnestockTrailMap.pdf

This cache has been placed as part of the New York State Taconic Region Geocache Challenge.  There are 76 caches hidden within 16 state parks and historic sites in the Taconic Region, geocachers finding 45 or more will be eligible to receive a 2018 Mills Norrie State Park commemorative and trackable geocoin.  If you are interested in taking the challenge, you can pick up a geocaching passport at any of the participating parks and sites or download it at www.nysparks.com .
