Geocache Description:

A potluck/social event in Marshalltown, with some new caches and door prizes, as well, in keeping with last year's theme of Food, Fellowship, Prizes and Geocaches.  We are planning some Temporary KID Caches.....these will only be available the day of the event, and can not be logged. AN UPDATE ....MAY HAVE A WAY THAT ADULTS CAN LOG THESE KID CACHES AS A FIND

The first Dog Days of Summer was held last July at Green Castle Park.   Many asked if there would be a repeat event.   We spent a lot of time considering where we could do a second version.  Since our friends Cuckoo's Nest volunteered to help, we decided to try version 2 this year with a few changes.  We didn't have a park that offered us the space Green Castle did for caches, so the new ones will most likely be spread about the city.  We would suggest that if you have not completed the Linn Creek Trail series by our friends, we would highly recommend them.  There are somewhere around 40 high quality caches in the series, with various terrain and difficulty ratings.   As they are all published you could work on them in the morning and then join us for the potluck at noon.  The Linn Creek Bike Trail, is a paved, level, walking/biking trail that runs throughout Marshalltown with access points from several of the parks. A map of the system can be downloaded from the Marshalltown Park and Recreation Website.

Specifics of this event:

When: Saturday July 28. 2018

Where: Kiwanis Park Shelter at 2206 S. 3rd Ave, Marshalltown.   There are flush toilets attached to the side of the enclosed shelter.  Water and electricity are available.  There is playground equipment very close by for easy adult supervision of the kiddos.  There is adequate parking at the shelter, but if it is necessary there is overflow parking at Hope Church across the street or Hoglan School just south of Kiwanis park.

Time:  11 AM -2 PM  Plan to eat at noon.  We will provide the hot"DOGS", buns, condiments, table service (although you are welcome to bring your own), water and ice tea.   You are welcome to bring other beverages of your choice, but please note that alcohol is not allowed in this particular park.   We ask those attending to bring a dish to share and if you know what you are bringing, to list it in your Log to Attend.

Door prizes: We will probably have an eclectic mix of adult door prizes as was true last year, still working on that aspect of the event but there should be something for everyone. There will be kid specific door prizes .  Drawings for the door prizes will be immediately after lunch, followed by the release of the new caches.

Geocaches:  The number of new caches has not been finalized so stay tuned for updates.  UPDATE: RIGHT NOW WE BELIEVE THE NUMBER TO BE 17. A nice variety of types is being planned. The possibility of temp kid caches will probably depend on the numbers of children registered.

Please note the number in your party with your Will Attend log.

We look forward to seeing you in July.
