Geocache Description:

VERY IMPORTANT! The final of this cache is in Gibraltar, but the one outside Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, UK! It's a 1,540 miles (2,480Km) /24 hour drive away! Even if you don't expect to be in the UK any time soon, it's still a lovely tour of the length of Gibraltar, from just south of the runway to Europa Point at the far end. A walk of about a 3 miles/4.5Km and a 420m/1,380ft climb if you don't take the cable car, but a great way to see a big chunk of Gibraltar and maybe that's the real reward rather than a Smiley?

In addition, there is a £5 charge to visit the Upper Rock Nature Reserve as a walker (without entrance to tourist attractions, including St Michael's Cave, the Great Siege Tunnels, etc.)

Please don't log a Find on this cache without visiting Gibraltar AND the other Gibraltar. It is not intended to be a 'Team Work' cache - contacting a local to 'sign you in' or vise-versa would be against the spirit of this multi-style Letterbox/Hybrid (not Puzzle!) cache - and would make a mess of your 'Countries Cached-In' stats too. Many visitors to Gibraltar are from the UK, or at least visit periodically, and this cache was set with them in mind. Plus you'll be able to brag about the 1,500 mile trip you took 'to find a cache' :D

This cache is ideal to do in combination with 'Gibraltar twinned with... Gibraltar? (Ultra-Multi)' and others along the route. If visiting St Michael's Cave, backtrack from Q4, drop left at the road turning beyond the southern Douglas Path access, and continue down to it. Afterwards, drop again - perhaps via Ghost Battery / La Batería fantasma - or the path from Spur Battery Road behind and below the restaurant, until you reach Jew's Gate and the other end of the Mediterranean Steps. Update: There's also Triumphant Triple: Plaque Buildup 3 (Ultra-Multi) if you enjoy a more significant caching challenge.

Location 1 (Headline co-ords): Q1. An Easy Start. Gibraltar - Cradle of History is the monumental sculpture which greets visitors as they complete their journey across the runway. It symbolises Gibraltar's position as one of the longest inhabited places in Europe. Neanderthals lived here until 'comparatively' recently. A = the number of bolts holding the Rotary International sign to its base.

Location 2 (N36° 07.920' W005° 20.745'): Q2. Go Ape. A monument - actually a memorial - on a rather less grandiose scale. Michael is remembered here, but by whom? (two words, 4, 7) Following the standard a=1, b=2, j=0, z=6 conversion, B = 3rd letter of the First word and C = 3rd letter of the Second word.

Location 3 (N36° 07.796' W005° 20.692'): Q3. The Douglas Lookout, on the Douglas Path and above the pepperpot guard 'hut' seen in The Living Daylights (Bond parachutes onto the Rock in the pre-credits action sequence), isn't in the best of conditions. Find a room with a view north and locate evidence of work dated 3D/E/F5 in an attractive font. It's fairly obvious. See additional NA & SA waypoints if you can't find the route to this location. TEMP HELP! I'm getting reports of the lookout either being locked or the info in the easternmost room being obscured. Until I get more info/updates, the numbers you need here are D=0 E=6 F=3.

Location 4 (N36° 07.474' W005° 20.606'): Q4. At the gates. You're close to the Rock's highest point here, at 426m/1398ft above sea level. You'll see three prominent dates: 200G, 178H and 189J (skipping I/i for clarity). There is a 'quick' way down from here towards Q5, but your knees may not thank you for it...

Location 5 (N36° 06.568' W005° 20.795'): Q5. The Deep South. Welcome to Europa Point, with its lighthouse (the only one Trinity House is responsible for outside of the UK), Sikorski Memorial and Harding's Battery. Here you need to find the Toposcope (you'll know it when you see it. It has a view of Morocco, about 14 miles away) and answer the following: How far is it to Verde Isle? K miles. And to Mount Gitano? 1L miles.

FINAL LOCATION (approx 1,100 miles/1,770Km as the crow flies from here..!): N51° 4(A+L) . ((H-G-L)+(C-E)) (F+K) (B+D)'
W000° 5(F-D) . ((G+J)-E) ((H+C)-(B+K)) (A)'

Please note the stamp in the cache makes it a Letterbox/Hybrid. It's not a swap item. Please don't remove it!

If it helps, the hamlet of Gibraltar, near Aylesbury in Bucks is approx. 45 miles/72Km from Heathrow Airport, 82 miles/132Km from Gatwick Airport, or 168 miles 263Km from Manchester Airport, all by fastest road options. It's close to the UK's oldest puzzle cache, England's oldest cache (Jan '01; Europe's 8th-oldest cache), and several Virtuals and other caches of interest, if that sways you to visit! It's also close to the A41 road which goes into London.
