Geocache Description:

A geocachers' gathering in Brooklyn Bridge Park to celebrate Old Bet's 3,000th find. Assemble between 11:30 a.m. and noon. The first 20 cachers to sign in will receive a genuine commemorative U.S. postage stamp celebrating the milestone.

There is no way around it: when Brooklyn is in your blood, you cannot escape. I was born in Brooklyn, but moved away (against my will) when I was but 5 years old. I insist that I learned to tell time from the clock on the Williamsburg Savings Bank. I still get teary-eyed every October 8, the day in 1957 that the Dodgers announced their move to Los Angeles. I ate my first hot dog at the real Nathan’s in Coney Island. (That memory, like the clock story, may or may not be true, but I am sticking with it.)

For me, the race to 3,000 finds has been more a marathon then sprint. I have been caching since 2004, and only now am I closing in on find No. 3,000. Most of my milestones have been recorded in the suburbs, where I live. But for No. 3,000, I have decided to return to my birth borough. And I would like the geocaching community to join me to celebrate this personal achievement.

On June 6th, I collected cache #2,999. On June 16th, the Brooklyn 3K event will open at 11:30 a.m. in Brooklyn Bridge Park. (The coordinates are near the intersection of the park greenway and the Pier 2 promenade.) At noon we will make the short walk to GC7C6Z9, “The Best View in New York," where I will attempt find No. 3,000. Those of you who already have found this cache can expect to be entertained as I wander in circles, looking for the cache -- or you an run interference with any meddlesome muggles. Those of you who have not found the cache can join the search and add a find to your own register.

(A cacher has reminded me that I can claim a find on my own event. I am holding that in reserve, in case I DNF the physical cache. That happens.)
