In the Manuel Antonio park, a path follows the Espadilla Sur beach which leads to a small bay. At the end of the beach you'll find a geological formation unique in the world, the tombolo of Punta Catedral.
Tombolo is a geomorphological term for a barrier beach between an island or islet and the coast (mainland or other island). Sediment deposition (sandy or gravelly) is generally set up by wave train refraction due to the island: this protects the area between it and the other land area, causing sediment deposition where waves meet.
