I am a Landscape Architect so I look at baseball fields different than most people. In Minnesota we have a grass mixture that is usually about 50% Bluegrass(Improved Varieties) and 50% Perennial Rye Grass. Although we are starting to see an expanded use of tall and fine fescues in seed mixes. It is tedious to look at the spec. book for something as simple as grass seed.
We also have ball fields with an exceptionally red "dirt", Ball Field Aggregate. I don't like the term dirt since it is a slang term for soil, aggregate, or other component finely broken down rock. It would be tough to play baseball on potting soil or have a gravely soil in your grass areas....
