About REALLY SideTracked - Cummertrees Station
Cummertrees railway station opened in August 1848 by the Glasgow, Dumfries & Carlisle Railway. A Cummertrees Lime siding existed nearby with a narrow-gauge railway link to the Kellhead lime works.
The village of Cummertrees developed around the station. The stylish and sizeable station buildings reflect the fact that the station served nearby Kinmount House, once seat of the Marquesses of Queensberry.
The station closed on 19th September 1955, while the goods siding closed 9 years later in August 1964. The fine station building survives as a private residence.
