Laugarás is a small village in Bláskógabyggð, with a population of around 120 people. It has been termed "Þorpið í skóginum" (the village in the forest) since it has unusually many trees, compared with the typical Icelandic landscape.
Many of the inhabitants are greenhouse farmers, as only the hardiest of vegetables can be grown outside in the cool Icelandic climate. Some of the farmers even sell their produce directly to visitors. Due to the hot springs here, there is plenty of hot water to warm up the houses. Here you have a pretty good view of the geothermal area (plenty of steam and can be very dangerous to enter, so please be careful!) and in the distance you can see Mt Vörðufell (391 m).
