El Lugar
El Museo de Calcos y Escultura comparada Ernesto de la Cárcova es un museo de arte ubicado en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, capital de la República Argentina. Depende del Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte.
El museo se encuentra en la esquina del Boulevard Elvira Rawson de Dellepiane con la Avenida España. Se trata de un conjunto de edificios construido a comienzos del siglo XX, y que tuvieron primero la función de caballerizas del Lazareto, un organismo municipal que se encargaba del control de los animales que ingresaban a Buenos Aires.
En 1923, fueron remodelados para alojar a la Escuela de Bellas Artes. En 1928, se instaló finalmente el Museo de Calcos. El museo fue inaugurado en el año 1928, por recomendación de la Comisión Nacional de Bellas Artes. Nació con una función especialmente didáctica, ya que conserva reproducciones de grandes obras de arte clásico que sirven de modelo para los alumnos de la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de la Nación Ernesto de la Cárcova.
Muchos de los calcos provienen de Alemania, llegaron en 1908 para los festejos del centenario de la Revolución de Mayo, y fueron luego cedidos por el gobierno alemán. Entre 1923 y 1928 se incorporaron más, especialmente las esculturas de gran tamaño, por adquisición o donaciones. Aproximadamente doscientos calcos de figuras egipcias y mesopotámicas fueron cedidos en 1935 por el Museo Antropológico y Etnográfico de Buenos Aires Juan Bautista Ambrosetti, pasando a engrosar la colección del museo.
El museo debe su nombre a Ernesto de la Cárcova, (n. 3 de marzo de 1866, fallecido el 28 de diciembre de 1927) pintor argentino y el primer director de la Academia Superior de Bellas Artes de la Nación.

Calcos and Sculpture compared Museum Ernesto de la Cárcova is an art museum located in the city of Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. Under the National Institute of Arts.
The museum is located at the corner of Boulevard Elvira Rawson de Dellepiane with Spain Avenue. It is a complex of buildings built in the early twentieth century, and had first function stables of Lazaretto, a municipal body that was responsible of the control animals who entered Buenos Aires.
In 1923, they were remodeled to house the School of Fine Arts. In 1928, it was finally installed Calcos Museum. The museum was inaugurated in 1928, on the recommendation of the National Commission of Fine Arts. He was born with a particularly didactic function, as it retains reproductions of great works of classical art as models for the students of the School of Fine Arts Ernesto Cárcova.
Many casts come from Germany, they arrived in 1908 for the celebrations of the centenary of the May Revolution, and were later donated by the German government. Between 1923 and 1928 more were added, especially the large sculptures, by purchase or donation. Approximately two hundred casts of Egyptian and Mesopotamian figures were ceded in 1935 by the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of Buenos Aires Juan Bautista Ambrosetti, thus swelling the museum's collection.
The museum takes its name from Ernesto de la Cárcova (born March 3, 1866, died December 28, 1927) Argentine artist and the first director of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Nation.
