Igreja de São Jorge / Casa de Palha
A Igreja Matriz de São Jorge, edificada em 1761, é considerada o ex-libris do
património edificado do concelho, por ser a maior igreja da Região de estilo barroco.
Para além do seu porte grandioso, o seu interior possui um altar-mor em talha
dourada e um belo conjunto de pinturas.
Esta igreja paroquial possui uma fachada principal de fenestração pouco comum
dentro da tipologia regional, já que o portal é encimado por três janelas de avental e
no tímpano surge uma outra janela ladeada de pilastras que suportam cornija reta.
Esta Igreja é, desde 1995, considerada Monumento de Valor Local, pela Direção
Regional dos Assuntos Culturais (DRAC).
Atrás da Igreja, pode observar uma "Casa de palha", a casa típica de São Jorge. Feita em madeira, com tecto de colmo, estas casas normalmente são compostas por um sótão, onde se guardavam produtos agrícolas (por exemplo as sementes), e um piso térreo, geralmente área habitacional, que se
encontrava dividido em duas partes.
Infelizmente é cada vez mais difícil encontrar estas casas na freguesia, sendo esta provavelmente a que se encontra em melhor estado.
A cache
A cache encontra-se a meio destes dois "tesouros" da freguesia. É de fácil acesso e de tamanho pequeno.
São Jorge's Church / Typical São Jorge's House
The Igreja Matriz de São Jorge, built in 1761, is considered the ex-libris of the built
heritage of the county, being the largest church in the region in the Baroque style.
In addition to its grandiose portico, its interior has a high altar in gold carving and a
beautiful set of paintings.
This parish church has a main façade of unusual fenestration within the regional
typology, since the portal is topped by three apron windows and in the tympanum
arises another window flanked by pilasters that support straight cornice.
Since 1995, this Church has been considered a Monument of Local Value by the
Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC).
Behind the church you can see a "House of straw", the typical house of São Jorge. Made of wood, with a thatched roof, these houses usually consist of an attic, where agricultural products where kept (for example the seeds), and a ground floor, usually a housing area, that
was divided into two parts.
Unfortunately it is now very difficult to find these houses in the parish, being this one probably the one in the best condition.
The cache
This cache is located in between this two "treasures" of São Jorge. It's access is easy and the container size is small.
