Geocache Description:

THE MARYLAND GEOCACHING SOCIETY
cordially invites you to attend the Spring 2018

at
Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary

Nature Preserve at Waysons Corner

on
Saturday, April 21st
10am to 12 noon

Come join the Maryland Geocaching Society at the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary for a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) Event on Saturday, April 21st at 10am. Parking coordinates will take you to the Southern Maryland Boulevard Park & Ride (on North-bound Route 4).  Posted coordinates are across the Service Road, where we will meet with the Park representative.

This is an excellent opportunity to give back to Mother Earth by picking up trash and helping with trail maintenance at this great Maryland park. And since this is the first day of 2018's Earth Day CITO Week…

you will earn a souvenir by attending this CITO event!

The Nature Preserve at Waysons Corner section of Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is located between Upper Marlboro and Bristol along Route 4 in Ann Arundel County.  This 30-acre property was acquired by the government a couple years ago, after strong protests from local residents against proposed commercial development.  It was then turned over to the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary organization for management.  The property has been idle since, though volunteer clean-up crews have been working to remove litter and large items dumped in the area. This preserve has yet to be officially opened to the public.  A lot of clean up is still needed to completely restore the area for a planned Grand Opening in May, and our assistance will play a big part in that effort.  A proposal for a Children's Nature Discovery Place has been submitted to further enhance and encourage community and family use of the Preserve.

JBWS-WC Trail Map

A geotrail of four caches will be published the day of the CITO for those who wish to explore the area further after the CITO event.
