In Adinkerke werden heel wat geallieerde troepen gekantonneerd. In het dorp waren ook verscheidene medische posten geïnstalleerd, waarvan de bekendste het militair veldhospitaal in het domein Cabour (ook wel foutief 'Cabourg' genoemd) was. Er waren ook verschillende medische posten: in een nu afgebroken loods van het spoorwegstation (evacuatiehospitaal) en vanaf eind oktober 1914 langs de Kerkweg (met een triagepost voor gewonden). Het domein 'Cabour' is een duinengebied, genoemd naar de Rijselse industrieel Cabour die het gebied begin 20ste eeuw kocht en er een landhuis bouwde. De oprichting van het chirurgisch hospitaal binnen het domein, in april 1915, werd bevolen door “l'Inspecteur Général du Service de Santé” van het Belgisch Leger, dr. Mélis, in reactie tegen de oprichting van het Rode Kruishospitaal L'Océan in De Panne.

Beaucoup de troupes alliées furent cantonné à Adinkerke. Différents postes médicaux furent installés dans le village, dont le plus important, l’hôpital de campagne militaire dans le domaine de Cabour (aussi nommé par erreur “Cabourg”). Il y avait aussi différents postes médicaux : dans un ancient hangar de la gare (hôpital d’évacuation) et fin octobre 1914 au long du chemin de l’église (avec un poste de triage pour les blessés). Le domaine “Cabour” est une zone de dunes, nommé d’après l’industriel Lillois Cabour, qui avait acheté le domaine au début du 20ième siècle pour y construire un manoir. La création de l’hôpital chirurgique sur le domaine, en avril 1915, fût ordonné par l’Inspecteur Général du Service de Santé de l’Armée Belge, Dr. Mélis, en réaction sur la création de l’Hôpital de la Croix Rouge à La Panne.

A lot of allied troups were logged at Adinkerke. In the small village several medical posts were installed. One of the most famous was was the military field hospital in the domain of Cabour. A lot of different medical posts were situated in a hangar near the railway station. The establishment of the field hospital was ordered by “l'Inspecteur Général du Service de Santé” of the Belgian army, Dr Melis. This was a reaction against the foundation of the red cross hospital “L’ocean” in De Panne.
