Geocache Description:

An Underground Overground DaySheep

Where ? - Ribblehead Viaduct
When ? - Tuesday 31st July 10:00-15:00
What ? - Climb to the top of Yorkshire, and delve beneath

The co-ordinates for this event are at the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, Please do not drive up to the Viaduct to park, the National Park will not allow it
Parking is available on the roadside at the coordinates shown
Event team staff will be at the end of the track by the Viaduct arch

OVERGROUND - Whernside - the highest point in Yorkshire

Whernside is one of The Yorkshire Three Peaks, standing at 736 metres, it's the tallest one of the three, Ingleborough being 723m, and PenYGhent being 694m. Take the opportunity to wander up this amazing mountain, - on a good day once at the top, both the Lake District and the Pennines can be seen, as well as the other two peaks.
(... and of course as we have booked the weather we know it's going to be a good day - but be prepared for it to be cold and wet at the top)

This is an arduous walk and once on the path you are committed, there are no short cuts off, so please dress appropriately.
This walk is not guided, but a photocopied map and advice is available at the venue.
Please allow at least 4 hours for this walk depending on ability.

Although the event team will not be booking you in and out, please make sure somebody knows that you are climbing up the hill - and that you have got down safely

Some of you may want to tie this in with doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and associated wherigo caches. A tough walk of around 25 miles and over 5,000 feet of climbing, the challenge being to complete in 12 hours! The route that takes will bring you in close to the event coordinates.

UNDERGROUND - Thistle and Runscar Cave Systems

This event will take you down Thistle and Runscar Cave Systems under the shadow of Ribblehead Viaduct, explore the two 100 metre rift passages and experience the Yorkshire Dales from underneath Whernside

Trips will last approximately 45 minutes and can be quite arduous, - whilst they do involve crawling on hands and knees, there are no tight squeezes or difficult spots
Wellies / Torch / Waterproofs will be essential. You WILL get wet feet

The trips are run by qualified professional caving instructors, one of whom is Yorkshire 2018 Mega Committee Member Citizen1, - please chat to her prior to the day should you be interested, but - are not quite sure!

Children must be accompanied under the age of 10, minimum age limit - 3 years

Booking is required as there are a limited number of places available. Maximum group size is 12 per trip.
Booking will be done on the Mega shop on the website, so make sure you log a will attend as we will announce on here when the bookings are open

Of course you don't need to go climbing up Whernside or crawling about in the caves, you could just wander about and look at the scenery - or maybe even go to the pub (which according to some has the best view of any Gents toilet in the country!), or you could even just join us at the coordinates and take in the epic scenery, all else is optional!
