Salto do Jacuí Traditional Geocache

É no município de Salto do Jacuí que fica situada a barragem Maia Filho, que faz o armazenamento de água para a usina hidrelétrica Leonel de Moura Brizola (ex-Usina Hidrelétrica do Jacuí). Esta usina tem potência efetiva de 180 MW, possui seis grupos geradores e é alimentada pelas águas do rio Jacuí, represadas pelo reservatório da barragem Maia Filho. A sua concessionária é a Companhia Estadual de Geração e Transmissão de Energia Elétrica.

A primeira unidade da Usina Hidrelétrica do Jacuí começou a operar em 1962, no rio Jacuí. A usina possui seis grupos geradores de 30 MW, com adução realizada por túnel de 1200 metros de comprimento e nove metros de diâmetro. A barragem Engenheiro Maia Filho forma um reservatório de 5420 hectares e possui 17 comportas. Em 2005, a Usina Hidrelétrica Jacuí passou a se denominar Usina Hidrelétrica Leonel de Moura Brizola, em homenagem ao político gaúcho Leonel Brizola, falecido em junho do ano anterior. Brizola teve decisiva participação na história da CEEE ao obter, em março de 1959, a concordância do ex-presidente Juscelino Kubistchek para encampar o patrimônio da Companhia de Energia Elétrica Rio-Grandense. A homenagem é justificada em razão de que grande parte das obras da usina ocorreu durante o período em que Brizola governou o Rio Grande do Sul, entre 1958 e 1962.
